This project has been nominated for the 'where there are no engineers' national finals in June
engineers without boarders are a non - governmental irish organisation. The Operation helps people in third world countries by inviting young engineers and designer work on projects to to enable long-term positive social and global development. this year our challenge was to create a concept to help promote better water sanitation in Indian villages using an eco san toilet. the chosen concept will be produced by locals, communities and individuals in India.
kameshwarm (India) has a high water table, the water is often contaminated and leads to many health problems within the village. the eco san toilet is a closed system that does not need water. the toilet is based on the principal of recovering and recycling nutrients from excreta to create a valuable resource for agriculture.
My Initial Contextual Research of kameshwaram. this poster focused on the villages population, history and local government. Learning about India's Background and culture helped me to gain a deeper understanding of the brief and how important this matter was within the village.
Poster was designed myself including sketches on Procreate and then fully designed within photoshop.
From this I decided to do some research into young children of India and their awareness of good sanitation. the main problem being with many of the older villagers of India is the lack of want for change, even if it is affecting their own health. by raising the awareness at a young age it is more likely they will see the importance of this and learn a habit from a young age.
I wanted to create something fun and engaging for children. an animation on the importance of nutrients from excrete was made, the animation was then formed into a QR code which could be hung up in classrooms and scanned.
The animation was produced fully myself and took over 500 drawing slides to make.
